Klaus Nomi occupied a universe entirely his own, a classically trained countertenor who collided the operatic tradition with downtown New York's new wave underground and made something that still sounds like it arrived from another dimension. Born Klaus Sperber in Bavaria, he found his stage in the East Village lofts and clubs of the late 1970s before a brief, blazing run of records that ended with his death in 1983. This collection gathers the essential peaks of that strange, singular catalog.
