Darryl Jenifer has always operated at the intersection of raw power and spiritual seeking, and his bass work with Bad Brains placed him in conversation with jazz and reggae as much as hardcore punk. Hearing him step fully into an instrumental jazz context, alongside improvisers of the caliber of DeJohnette and Medeski, feels less like a left turn than a natural arrival at a destination he's been moving toward for decades.
The Weather Channel is the new instrumental album from Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer. It follows his 2010 solo debut, In Search of Black Judas. The record features a venerable lineup of heavy-hitters from the jazz world, including the likes of John Medeski, Ben Perowsky, Jack DeJohnette, and Karl Berger, among others. The tracklist includes nine new compositions, as well as new interpretations of two Bad Brains classics.
